CHAPEL
This 14th century Gothic chapel was built by the fourth wife of Karl IV Queen Elisabeth who died in 1393 in Mělník. The chapel was initially dedicated to St. Louis. After being badly damaged in the Thirty Years War, it was recreated and rededicated in memory of St. Ludmilla. The beautiful altar is an original Baroque creation from the end of the 17th century. The chapel is adorned with many relics as well as portraits (some of which are by Karl Skreta) of patron saints. The most notable works of art are the three paintings in the back right corner of apostles by Peter Brandl and the painting above the Renaissance chest entitled, Flight from Egypt by the Italian painter Bassano.
